Basketball is off to a great start this season in APS. Boys' and girls' teams play on Mondays and Thursdays each week through January 29. The teams have displayed outstanding skills and lots of hustle.

The girls' standings are topped by Litchfield CLC at 6-0. The Argos are traditionally strong and are directed by coach Jeff Whited. Coach Joellen Bergert has the Innes CLC Jaguars off to a great start with a record of 4-1. Buchtel CLC at  3-2, East CLC at 2-3, Hyre CLC at 1-5 and Jennings CLC at 0-6 round out the standings for the girls.

Boys' basketball is thriving at APS! The teams are very competitive and exciting to watch. Currently, the Buchtel Griffs lead the way at 6-0. First-year coach Nate Kilker has the Griffs hustling and playing great each game. Litchfield, under the coaching of Eric Mitchell, avenged an early season loss to Hyre by defeating the Hawks at Hyre this week. Litchfield is 4-2 followed by Hyre at 3-2 , Innes 2-4, Jennings 2-4 and East 0-5 round out the standings.

Wrestling takes place on Wednesdays at five of our middle schools. This co-ed sport has some very skilled technicians! Jennings is off to their best start in recent years at 3-0. Coach Shane Reed took his team to Tallmadge for an early  -season invitational. This has paid off for Coach Reed as Jennings was able to get wins over traditional powers Hyre and Litchfield in league match-ups. Buchtel, Innes and Litchfield have gained wins while Hyre has only had one match early on at Jennings.

Admission is only $2 for middle school sports at all of our schools. Please come by and support our fine student-athletes at any of our six middle schools. Mark your calendar for the Middle School Basketball Championship on January 29 at Hyre -- 4:15 p.m. tip-off.
