Buchtel CLC Middle School teacher Elizabeth Terrill found Earth Day to be extra meaningful for her and her students this year.

Liz took her science class outside on a 'field trip' around the grounds last Thursday (4/22/21) to see what they might find.

"My kids discovered the eggs of a Killdeer," said Terrill. "They were so worried about the lawn maintenance crew disturbing the nest or, worse, that they stayed outside in the freezing, cold weather to protect the eggs and the nest."

Terrill says the students built a fence and a wall around the Killdeer nest to protect the eggs and will be checking on the family regularly.

"What a day for the earth," she said. "And what a day for my kind, sensitive science students."
