Image of Buchtel CLC Ceramic ProjectCongratulations to the students in ceramics classes in grades 9-12 at Buchtel CLC who had a unique opportunity to work with Molly Judge as a resident artist who specializes in ceramic tile creations. Students explored the history of ceramic tile creation as well as a variety of styles that artists have included in their artwork. The 10-day project encompassed the ideas, design and creation of things that were important to the student participants in their school environment. Additionally, students were provided with vocabulary specific to the processes used as well as taught how to use a variety of techniques, such as the use of a slab roller to compress the clay in preparation for hand-crafted designs.

The artwork will be mounted in the High School Media Center along with a plaque containing the artists’ statement; names of the student artists; Molly Judge, artist in residence; and Annette Economous, classroom teacher.

Thank you to the generous contributions provided by the TeachArtsOhio grant sponsored by the Ohio Arts Council for supporting this wonderful opportunity for our Akron students!
