‚ÄčAkron Public Schools (APS) has made the decision to have no classes Election Day, Tuesday, March 17, 2020, as a safety precaution.

"We have made this decision out of concern for the safety of our students, school community and the public," said Superintendent David W. James, Ed.D.

Executive Director of Business Affairs, Debra Foulk, noted APS will have 19 of its 47 schools and community learning centers throughout the city engaged as polling places on Election Day.

Foulk says some of the schools give voters direct access from their parking lots to the polling location. At other schools, voters have a less direct route and must walk through the building.

"As a precaution," James said, "it really just makes sense for us to limit the contact for that one day, clean the polling areas thoroughly after voting and resume classes Wednesday."

APS buildings designated as polling locations will be open March 17 for voting.
